A growing number of local unions and labor councils are speaking out against the impending war with Iraq.  In January, both the Western Connecticut and Greater Hartford Labor Councils passed resolutions criticizing Bush's military buildup, cuts in social services, and attacks on civil liberities and the right to organize.

The resolutions follow a move in October, 2002 by District 1199, the New England Health Care Employees Union, whose Executive Board spoke out against the administration's unilateral move towards a pre-emptive war (see below).

Many of the unions that have taken anti-war stands have based their positions on a letter to Congress from AFL-CIO president John Sweeney in October.

Connecticut labor activists are meeting in the near future to develop a network of trade unionists against the war.
